The question here posed is: “Why were we not able to change the factors that marginalize peritoneal dialysis?” To answer this, we must recognize the independent value of peritoneal dialysis and avoid its constant comparison with extracorporeal dialysis. An essential tool for this aim is the presence of a well-organized outpatient service for advanced uremia, managed by trained and motivated doctors and nurses. We need to make sure that the peritoneal dialysis Sections are not gray and neglected areas in the organization of the Renal Unit. Additionally, clinical and non-clinical research, and innovation are all very important. The GdS and SIN should also help to change the perception of peritoneal dialysis among patients, colleagues, and institutions, as well as to inform and prepare the younger colleagues.Downloads
