Abstract

A sedentary lifestyle contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes and cancer in the general population; this cluster of diseases may be defined the diseasome of physical inactivity. Also in CKD/ESRD patients' physical activity is strikingly low. As a result of the growing evidence that suggests cardiovascular benefit among the CKD population that does physical activity, the National Kidney Foundation recommended counseling by nephrologists to increase patients' levels of physical activity in their guidelines about the management of cardiovascular diseases. Also ADPKD patients may perform a regular physical activity, even if in this particular condition some specific precautions need to be considered, such as the risk of abdominal trauma and cysts rupture and hematuria. Moreover, a preliminary cardiovascular assessment is mandatory because of the pre-hypertensive status of the ADPKD patient.
