Abstract

The Italian Society of Nephrology (SIN) and the Italian Society of Hemapheresis and Cellular Manipulation (SIdEM) agree to use a single database for data archiving of apheretic procedures. Starting from July 25, 2011 the computerized registry of the Therapeutic Apheresis study group of the Italian Society of Nephrology has officially become the common shared registry. The operative software has been updated and adjusted to the new needs. The archiving procedure has been made more intuitive, some structural gaps have been filled and the menus for the selection of the answers to different questions have been updated. A dedicated procedure for the archiving of productive apheresis has been created. The procedure for the registration of multicentric studies remains unchanged. Organized and summarized data are presented analytically, with different webpages for therapeutic apheresis, productive apheresis, and multicentric studies. After the extension and diversification of the Operative Units involved in the database, there has been a redistribution of the treated population and of the apheretic procedures used. The common shared registry reports data from all the institutions performing therapeutic apheresis, and offers a closer picture of the reality of apheresis in Italy.
