Call for Editors
Archives of Physiotherapy, the Diamond open access official journal of the Italian Society of Physiotherapy (Società Italiana di Fisioterapia, SIF ), dedicated to disseminating research across all areas of physiotherapy, is launching this call in collaboration with the European Network of Physiotherapy in Higher Education (ENPHE). The journal seeks one Section Editor and one Associate Editor to manage a new section dedicated to Education and support its growth. These positions are for a 3-year term starting in January 2025.
Responsibilities and Duties
Handling Editors
Handling Editors, which include both Section Editors and Associate Editors, have a vital role in managing the peer-review process for submitted manuscripts, ensuring the scientific quality and timely handling of articles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manuscript Evaluation: Handling Editors are responsible for evaluating assigned manuscripts, focusing on internal and external validity, and using their expertise in the relevant domain of their section.
- Peer-Review Oversight: Ensure the peer-review process is fair, prompt, and up to a high standard, with a balanced workload of no more than 5 papers under management at any given time.
Primary Duties:
- Initial Assessment: Perform an initial assessment of each manuscript within two weeks of submission to decide whether to proceed to peer review or issue a desk rejection.
- Reviewer Selection: Select and invite qualified expert reviewers from the journal's editorial board or external experts in a timely manner.
- Reviewer Feedback Evaluation: Review the feedback provided by peer reviewers and make recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief regarding the manuscript's publication suitability.
- Monitoring Review Progress: Ensure the review process stays on track, with deadlines being met, and provide necessary guidance to maintain the workflow’s momentum.
Section Editors - Additional Responsibilities
In addition Section Editors hold key leadership responsibilities within their designated section. They help shape the direction of their section and ensure alignment with the journal’s overall mission and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Editorial Oversight: Manage the editorial workload within their section by ensuring an adequate number of Associate Editors and reviewers are available to handle submissions efficiently.
- Team Building: Identify and recommend new Editorial Board members or Associate Editors as needed to strengthen the section or address any gaps in expertise.
- Content Quality Control: Monitor the quality and relevance of the published content in their section, ensuring it aligns with the journal’s mission and high standards.
- Propose Invited Papers: Collaborate with Associate Editors to propose invited papers on emerging trends and topics, contributing high-quality content to the journal.
