The prevalence of diabetes mellitus increases markedly with age. Furthermore, advancing age is a strong risk factor for diabetic neuropathy. We report the case of a 80 year-old woman with diabetes and diabetic neuropathy (stage 4 according National Kidney Foundation ) treated first with gliclazide and then linagliptin (5 mg/die) that achieved an appropriate glycemic control according to age and general conditions. The treatment with linagliptin was also well-tolerated with no adverse events reported (Diabetology).
